One Acre Fund is seeking an Agroforestry Lead for a two-year fixed-term contract based in Jinja, Uganda. Established in 2006, the organization supports 5.5 million smallholder farmers across nine African nations by providing agricultural services, farm supplies, tree seedlings, and credit. The Uganda branch, operating since 2014, delivers farm goods and fruit trees to over 34,000 farmers, backed by teams in Jinja and Kampala.
In this role, you will oversee the yearly tree production cycle from initial planning and nursery operations to final seedling delivery. You will serve as the primary authority on tree production metrics, coordinating across product innovations, supply chain, data, and regional teams without direct reports. This position suits individuals who thrive on managing complex processes end-to-end, utilizing data, and driving agricultural impact for farmers.
Responsibilities
- Manage the master tree production calendar and track milestones from planning to seedling distribution and excess tree management
- Collaborate with Product Innovations, Supply Chain, Data, Regional Leads, and Tree Nursery Managers while escalating risks and delays to leadership
- Supervise nursery setup weekly and coordinate corrective actions with Regional Leads and Product Innovations
- Partner with the Data and Analytics Lead on dashboards and weekly nursery evaluations to generate action plans
- Oversee quality control during seed delivery, receipt, storage, and seedling monitoring, alongside pre-distribution audits
- Plan and direct seedling distribution strategies, pack projections, site transfers, and logistics routes
- Manage field trials, help scale new tree species, and record operational lessons
Requirements
- Possess 3 to 5 years of professional background in agroforestry or tree production, covering nursery setup, seedling production, quality control, and agroforestry systems
- Bring practical field programme implementation experience alongside supply chain and logistics coordination capabilities
- Demonstrate strong stakeholder management, communication, and the ability to influence without direct authority
- Show problem-solving skills and comfort with ambiguity in a rapidly growing organisation
- Utilize data analysis and dashboards effectively to translate figures into actionable steps
- Maintain a willingness to travel regularly to various nursery locations
- Hold citizenship or permanent residency in Uganda
Qualifications
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Forestry, Agroforestry, Natural Resource Management, Economics, Agricultural Economics, or Statistics (or possess equivalent experience)
