Job Description
Elastic's internal IT team in India is hiring an on-site, full-time UX and front-end engineer. The group is moving past standard chat tools and building generative and agentic AI experiences for staff. The engineer designs and constructs front ends for internal products and platforms, and makes intricate AI reasoning understandable and usable.
Duties include turning generative and agentic workflows into responsive screens that handle streamed text, adaptive prompt flows, visible agent reasoning and tool activity, and multimodal input. The engineer creates reusable, accessible component libraries in React and TypeScript and wires front ends to retrieval-augmented generation endpoints, the Elasticsearch Relevance Engine, and agent orchestration interfaces.
Other tasks cover tuning rendering speed for live model output, including streaming latency and optimistic updates, and adding instrumentation that tracks satisfaction, prompt performance, and usability. The engineer works alongside designers, product leads, and AI back-end developers to refine workflows from user feedback, and documents component systems and interaction patterns.
Applicants should show recent work on generative AI interfaces, such as chat-style tools, prompt builders, or agent workflows. Deep skill in React and TypeScript, plus JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS or Sass, is expected, along with experience handling complicated async state and streaming data over WebSockets or Server-Sent Events. Grounding in UX design, wireframing, design systems, and quick prototyping is needed, and interest in learning Elastic UI and Figma is valuable.
Perks listed include pay tied to the work, health coverage for employees and families in many locations, flexible arrangements for many roles, generous annual leave, a charitable match of up to $2,000 or local currency, up to 40 volunteer hours a year, and at least 16 weeks of parental leave. No salary is shown.
