Job Description
Zopa for Business wants a Risk Lead in London to head the group that manages risk stemming from partners and distributors across its product range. This is a senior, first-line leadership job. The holder decides where partner risk policy is headed, grows the people in the team, and gives frank, commercially grounded counsel to senior colleagues so that risk stays in proportion to the opportunity.
The Risk Lead answers for the full arc of partner and distributor exposure: vetting and approving new partners and significant changes, watching them over time with early-warning signals, and handling remediation, restrictions or termination when required. Designing proportionate frameworks, policies and baseline expectations is central, as is making or escalating calls on the riskiest cases. The lead supplies leaders with clear figures on exposure and emerging concerns, and works with product, engineering and specialist risk teams to tighten controls and tooling as the company grows. The post is hybrid, with two to three days a week in the London office.
Applicants should bring experience running risk, compliance, financial crime or third-party oversight inside regulated financial services, fintech or payments, along with a history of building risk-based onboarding and monitoring for partners, merchants, intermediaries or brokers.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach and motivate the Zopa for Business risk team, and set how it works and what good looks like.
- Own the full method for partner and distributor risk so it keeps up with the business.
- Guide business leaders so their choices balance growth, customer impact and appetite for risk.
- Draft proportionate frameworks, policies and minimum expectations for onboarding, material change and continuing oversight.
- Offer clear views on the riskiest cases and escalate what lies beyond the team's remit.
- Direct vetting, risk assessment and sign-off for new partners and significant relationship changes.
- Establish monitoring and early-warning measures, and intervene when a partner's profile shifts.
- Coordinate remediation, restrictions and exits with commercial and specialist colleagues.
- Give leaders management information on exposure, trends and performance.
- Turn lessons from incidents, issues and feedback into tighter controls and a smoother partner experience.
Requirements
- Substantial experience leading risk, compliance, financial crime, third-party or distribution risk in regulated financial services, fintech or payments.

- Leadership ability to grow a high-performing team and sway senior commercial, product and risk stakeholders.
- Explains complicated risk matters clearly and converts them into practical next steps.
