Job Description
This AI Lead and Engineering Manager vacancy belongs to the Usersnap team, one of the brands within the saas.group portfolio. Usersnap is weaving artificial intelligence into its core software, from self-configuring setup and smarter survey logic to contextual insight and reports assembled automatically from connected sources. The new leader will guide the small engineering group delivering these features and determine its technical course.
The position combines hands-on building with people leadership. The person writes and reviews code, makes architecture calls and defines what high-quality AI-native engineering should look like, while also owning schedules, workload distribution and follow-through. It is a full-time, engineering-focused post kept separate from product management, and it depends on working productively with Product.
Over the first three to six months, the goal is to create a dependable delivery rhythm, review the codebase, tooling and habits, and establish explicit engineering benchmarks for monitoring, testing, security and system design. The leader should also launch at least one AI-driven capability alongside the team, and build a productive rapport with Product and the broader company.
Raising standards spans five themes: visibility into AI behavior, costs and faults; testing that covers evaluation of model outputs; security and compliance; architecture and pipelines that scale; and firm time boxes for AI experimentation. The leader also decides which models to adopt and how to integrate them, balancing output quality, expense and response speed.
Candidates need at least seven years in software engineering and ideally two to three years managing people, whether as a team lead, manager or hands-on coach. Practical experience with model APIs, prompt design and retrieval techniques in production, plus strong SQL, Docker skills and CI/CD routines, is requested. The position is entirely remote, with generous time off and few meetings.
Responsibilities
- Manage timelines, workload and follow-through across a small engineering group
- Turn vague objectives into sequenced plans with Product and flag delays early
- Offer direct, constructive technical critique in reviews, design talks and one-to-ones
- Define and enforce benchmarks for monitoring, testing, security, architecture and time boxing
- Lead or guide key architecture choices, including which models to use
- Build and launch AI features with the team, from prototype to production
- Highlight technical risks around reliability, cost and unusual edge cases
- Work with Product to set requirements and priorities
Requirements
- Seven or more years of software engineering work

- Competent SQL and schema design
- Comfort with Docker, CI/CD pipelines and careful version control for prompts, models and datasets
- Evaluation mindset, including metric definition and offline and online testing
Qualifications
- Experience connecting several model providers, vector stores, LangChain or similar tools
- Fine-tuning experience used where it truly adds value
- Security or compliance background, or a clear interest in it
