Canva is hiring an AI Video Lead for a fixed-term contract of 12 months, full-time. The base is Sydney or Melbourne, with a hybrid pattern that mixes remote days and time in the office. The post sits in Content Studio, part of the Content group, where the Photo and Video group sets creative direction for Canva's media library and the quality benchmark.
The lead converts creative briefs into complete, AI-generated short videos, owning the full path and selecting suitable tools. Direction happens through prompts rather than a camera, paying attention to framing, light, colour, movement and tempo. The lead builds a reusable collection of prompt methods, references and processes, works within quality, safety and brand rules from the AI Photography and Videography Lead, raises concerns about realism, representation, bias or copyright early, and provides structured feedback on AI video systems. The lead also keeps up with a fast-changing field that includes Higgsfield, Runway, Kling, Veo and Pika.
The ideal candidate has a visual storytelling background, perhaps in an art or creative direction role, or in content production, and practical experience with generative video tools. Strong prompt skills, fast iteration and a portfolio demonstrating both are required. The person must have turned out high volumes of creative work against tight deadlines and be able to run production from brief to finish. Bonus points go to people who have made social-first clips for TikTok, Reels or Shorts, and to those comfortable in Adobe Premiere or After Effects. Interviews are conducted online.
Responsibilities
- Take a creative brief through to a finished AI-generated short-form video, owning every step
- Direct AI video through prompting, shaping framing, light, colour, motion and tempo
- Build a reusable library of prompt methods, references and workflows
- Keep to the quality, safety and brand rules set by the AI Photography and Videography Lead
- Raise concerns about realism, representation, bias or copyright promptly
- Provide organised, precise critiques of AI video software and what it produces
- Track AI video developments and carry useful techniques into Canva's processes
Requirements
- Deep storytelling craft across framing, light, colour, movement and tempo
- Practical experience with leading generative video platforms, for example Runway, Kling or Sora
- Strong prompt writing and rapid iteration
- Portfolio that showcases both creative output and prompt work
- Record of meeting heavy output schedules without losing quality
- Ability to run production from brief to finish independently
- Judgement to tell finished generated footage from output that still needs another pass
- Comfort with ambiguity and frequently changing tools
Qualifications
- Experience making social-first video for TikTok, Reels or Shorts
- Working knowledge of Adobe Premiere or After Effects, plus some Python scripting
