Job Description
Datavant operates a secure data collaboration platform focused on healthcare, supplying data solutions for life sciences companies, researchers, health plans, and providers. The organization is currently seeking a remote Atlassian Platform Architect to take charge of the technical direction, maintenance, architecture, and expansion of Jira, Confluence, Jira Service Management, and the wider Atlassian ecosystem.
This senior, hands-on position requires an individual who can balance high-level enterprise architecture with direct technical execution. The chosen candidate will set up governance policies, shape the strategic roadmap, formulate data and integration standards, and personally build complex workflows, integrations, reporting tools, and automations. Additionally, the role acts as the primary technical partner for the Jira administration team, mentoring staff, establishing reusable patterns, and managing high-risk engineering tasks or architectural escalations.
This opportunity is designed for a technical professional with extensive background in enterprise Atlassian management, ITIL-aligned service management, and rigorous regulatory environments such as FedRAMP and HIPAA.
Responsibilities
- Design and maintain the strategic roadmap, architecture, and technical vision for Jira, Confluence, JSM, and the broader Atlassian ecosystem
- Establish enterprise-wide standards for data models, permissions, workflows, custom fields, automation, naming conventions, and reporting
- Address technical debt, configuration sprawl, duplicate objects, and inconsistent patterns to maintain platform health
- Build complex solutions using REST APIs, Jira Automation, webhooks, ScriptRunner, Rovo, and Marketplace extensions
- Architect JSM and ITSM solutions that cover change, incident, problem, request, knowledge, and asset management
- Define security, privacy, availability, recoverability, performance, audit, and data-retention requirements
- Implement change controls, architecture reviews, and lifecycle-management processes
- Drive major consolidation, migration, redesign, remediation, and integration projects
- Assess Marketplace applications and emerging tools like Atlassian Intelligence and Rovo based on cost, security, privacy, and maintainability
- Partner with IT, Security, Privacy, Compliance, Enterprise Systems, Product, and Engineering departments
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and reviews for Jira administrators while acting as the senior escalation point
- Support vendor decisions, licensing, application rationalization, and platform investment planning
Requirements
- Possess six to eight years of experience leading Jira and the Atlassian ecosystem within a complex or large organization
- Demonstrate hands-on proficiency in Jira Cloud and JSM configurations, workflows, custom fields, permissions, security, and automation
- Show strong technical background with Forge, webhooks, REST APIs, workflow extensions, and enterprise integrations
- Have experience defining platform governance, technical roadmaps, configuration standards, and enterprise architecture
- Bring experience designing ITSM and JSM solutions aligned with ITIL practices and enterprise operating models
- Display solid knowledge of Atlassian Cloud identity and security, including Atlassian Guard, SAML, SSO, provisioning, SCIM, and access controls
- Have direct experience translating FedRAMP and HIPAA requirements into practical platform controls
- Possess experience leading migration, consolidation, remediation, or transformation initiatives
- Demonstrate capability in evaluating and governing Marketplace applications and Atlassian extensions
- Exhibit strong communication and stakeholder management abilities across strategy, technical design, delivery, and mentoring
