Chime is seeking a Commercial Counsel to join its legal team. As a financial technology company rather than a bank, Chime strives to make core banking services free, simple, and helpful for its members. In this role, the attorney will partner with internal business units to provide strategic counsel, negotiate key agreements, and handle various commercial matters.
The position requires comfort with leveraging artificial intelligence tools for contract drafting, research, and summarization while applying rigorous legal oversight. Ideal candidates possess strong interpersonal skills, practical business judgment, and the capability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
This position requires individuals to be located within commuting distance of Chime office hubs in New York City, Chicago, or San Francisco. The base salary range for this role is between $152,000 and $210,000 USD, with potential additional compensation including bonuses, equity, and comprehensive benefits.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with business partners to draft, review, and negotiate various commercial contracts such as SaaS agreements, NDAs, vendor contracts, and marketing deals
- Utilize AI technologies regularly for legal research, contract review, and drafting while verifying accuracy and maintaining confidentiality
- Streamline internal legal processes by developing templates, playbooks, and training materials
- Build AI-enabled workflows to increase efficiency for the legal department and the broader organization
- Escalate legal issues appropriately and communicate potential risks to the executive team
Requirements
- Possess a Juris Doctor degree and active membership in at least one state bar
- Bring two to five years of combined experience working in-house, at a law firm, or within government
- Demonstrate a strong background in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial contracts
- Maintain comfort and responsibility when using AI tools for day-to-day legal tasks
- Reside within commuting distance of New York City, Chicago, or San Francisco hubs
