Job Description

Wise is expanding its team and seeking a Compliance Operations Manager to operate on-site in Hyderabad. Established in 2011, Wise provides a multi-currency banking and international money transfer platform designed to help users move money globally. In this position, the professional will focus on reviewing high-risk customers associated with APAC entities, strengthening the organizational control environment, and managing financial crime risks.

The role suits an investigator and collaborator with expertise in financial crime compliance who can balance commercial foresight with regulatory adherence. The individual will interface with multidisciplinary groups spanning product, banking, and operations departments located in Hyderabad, Estonia, London, and various APAC offices. Core duties include analyzing escalated cases requiring senior management sign-off, advising operational teams on know-your-customer protocols, validating quality frameworks for enhanced due diligence, and reporting directly to local money laundering reporting officers.

Candidates should be prepared to manage regulatory changes, address control gaps, and collaborate internationally across rapid growth markets such as Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, India, Australia, and New Zealand. Due to the business-critical nature of the function, the schedule requires flexibility to support different shifts across APAC time zones, which may include weekend hours when necessary.

  • Act as the primary point of contact for operational teams requiring advisory on KYC and customer due diligence matters
  • Define Senior Manager approval escalation criteria for assigned regions in coordination with local compliance teams
  • Oversee decision quality for Enhanced Due Diligence and perform routine sample checks on approved outcomes
  • Provide input into first-line quality frameworks and review training materials for local typologies and obligations
  • Report decisions and control effectiveness insights to local money laundering reporting officers
  • Handle complex situations by liaising with and escalating to regional compliance officers

Requirements

  • Over four years of experience in financial crime operations or compliance focusing on customer due diligence and risk assessments
  • Background in financial services with thorough knowledge of AML and CTF regulations in APAC markets
  • Experience working in a first-line financial crime operational function handling complex customer cases
  • Familiarity with regulatory inspections, audits, and financial intelligence unit reporting
  • Flexibility to work in different shifts supporting APAC regions and availability to work on weekends when required

Qualifications

  • Experience working in a second-line compliance advisory role
  • Demonstrated ability to establish policy requirements and maintain adherence oversight
  • Project management skills with the capacity to design new processes and drive multi-team remediations
