Job Description
This contract front-end role is with Mozilla's Web Conferencing team, which builds the sharing features in Firefox that let people present a screen, window, or tab in video meetings. The position is a fixed-term contract and remote, and the team spans several time zones.
Backend work for a set of sharing enhancements is finished, and the interface has already been designed and signed off. The engineer's task is to build the approved interface, carry it through to release, and raise questions when real cases fall outside what the design covered, working through those with the UX group. The engineer also validates results with QA and assists partner testing against popular meeting services such as Google Meet, Zoom, and Jitsi.
Browser interface code has to be tested, accessible, and translatable inside a very large existing codebase. Changes are submitted to mozilla-central through open code review on Phabricator, and tracking takes place in publicly visible Bugzilla.
Applicants should have at least four years building front ends in JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. A track record of implementing a sign-off design accurately and noticing gaps is needed, along with the ability to become productive in code written by others. Writing automated interface tests and communicating clearly in writing across time zones are expected, and so is comfort with public review.
Bonus points go to prior work on Firefox or a comparable open browser, understanding of Firefox's front-end layout, such as custom elements and Fluent localization, WebRTC or getDisplayMedia work, accessibility know-how for modal dialogs and list navigation, and experience with Mozilla's test tools. Listed hiring ranges are $145,000 to $170,800 CAD for Canada Tier 1 and $154,000 to $168,000 USD for Canada Tier 2. No benefits are described.
