Job Description
Mozilla Foundation, a non-profit whose work spans digital rights, the health of the internet, and tech policy, is recruiting a remote, full-time Major Gifts Officer within its Development team. The officer reports into that team and collaborates with its VP, program staff, and top executives to grow a roster of major donors.
The officer is accountable for taking donors from early interest to a signed pledge. This covers identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding prospects who can give from $50,000 to $1 million or more. Personally closing gifts in the five, six, and seven figures is central. Every significant conversation must be logged in Salesforce, and the officer plans stewardship events and touchpoints that keep donors involved after they give.
Other tasks include working with prospect research to qualify new names, encouraging renewals and larger gifts, and shaping Mozilla's program and engineering activity into persuasive proposals and impact narratives. Program and executive colleagues contribute to these proposals. During the first six months, the officer reviews the existing portfolio and pipeline, moves active prospects toward an ask, and prepares a tailored proposal for one priority donor.
Candidates need major-gift history, ideally with tech, advocacy, or public-interest nonprofits, and must have personally closed gifts at the five-, six-, or seven-figure level. Strong relationship skills, persuasive proposal writing, disciplined CRM use, and the ability to make technical topics engaging are essential. Background in digital rights, donor-advised funds, wealth screening, or planned giving is welcome.
Pay depends on level and location. US ranges run from $102,200 to $131,523.70 USD across levels 17 and 18, and New York City and San Francisco Bay Area ranges run from $127,750 to $164,404.63 USD. Benefits include private medical cover, extended sick leave, an employee assistance program, retirement contributions, 20 days of annual leave plus sick days and a birthday day, holidays with a year-end shutdown, a wellness budget, a development budget, and top-up pay during pregnancy and parental leave.
