Job Description
GoCardless (part of Mollie) is hiring a Controls Specialist to manage the controls framework for its first-line operations teams. As a regulated payment provider, the company must handle operational risk and regulatory duties, and it keeps a strong control framework over business-critical areas such as payments and billing. The specialist helps first-line teams set up, run, test and regularly refresh those controls.
The scope spans Payments Ops, Billing and Credit Control. The specialist is the main point of contact for the annual Safeguarding and SOC 1 audits, which means working with auditors and collecting and submitting evidence. The role also connects with the wider Enterprise Risk community and helps shape the controls environment of a fast-growing FinTech.
Day-to-day work includes designing and putting controls in place with Regulatory Compliance and first-line control owners, refreshing Safeguarding and SOC 1 control assessments on a set schedule, managing key controls directly, redesigning processes for current and future needs, and walking auditors and regulators through the first-line control set. The posting also values efficiency through simplifying, automating or retiring controls, and building trust across the three lines of defence.
The ideal candidate has worked in a regulated setting, ideally financial services or FinTech, and has designed, implemented and tested controls, for example in an audit role. They can explain why a control exists in plain terms, balance compliance against operational efficiency, work comfortably with data, and operate independently in a quick-moving setting where responsibilities shift.
