Avenues Clinic in Harare is seeking a Cook for a fixed-term contract position to produce meals for staff members, doctors, and patients. The hospital needs an individual capable of following standard recipes and daily menus while maintaining food safety standards in an industrial kitchen environment.
Responsibilities
- Gather and weigh daily food production ingredients from the cold room
- Log daily ingredient amounts in the production sheet book
- Cook meals following the daily menu and standard recipes
- Sanitize and clean work areas with the 3-bucket system
- Take part in kitchen stock inventory checks and period-end stock counts
- Track and log daily freezer and cold room temperatures, reporting any abnormal readings
- Organize items on proper storage shelves to prevent cross-contamination
- Send used kitchen gear to the scullery for cleaning
- Store cold room ingredients according to the FIFO method
- Cover, label with production and expiry dates, and store food dishes in the cold room
Requirements
- Five Ordinary Levels, including Mathematics, English, and Science
- Class one certification in the trade of cook
- Background working in a pastry department creating confectionery items and desserts
- One year of experience in an industrial kitchen providing a la carte service
- Possess a mature, pleasant, courteous, cooperative, and enthusiastic team player attitude with strong communication abilities
- Capable of handling pressure
Qualifications
- Diploma in Professional Cookery
- Background working in a medical facility
