Job Description

GitLab is hiring a Corporate Development Director to shape the organization's investment strategies, encompassing what to build, purchase, or partner on, as well as areas to avoid. Operating within the Corporate Development & Strategic Partnerships unit and reporting directly to the VP of Corporate Development & Strategic Partnerships, this position blends strategic planning with mergers and acquisitions.

The person in this role will conduct market research surrounding the artificial intelligence and DevSecOps platform landscape, formulate investment theses alongside engineering and product teams, and manage deal execution from initial contact through integration. Success is measured by delivering sharp strategic decisions, comprehensive market perspectives, and actionable recommendations for the executive leadership and the Board.

Applicants should possess substantial background in strategy consulting, technology investing, corporate strategy, or corporate development, alongside direct experience managing end-to-end enterprise software acquisitions. • Formulate investment theses in collaboration with engineering and product leaders
  • Maintain market maps and competitive analyses tracking rival strategies, pricing, product direction, and funding activities
  • Identify markets and adjacencies that lack favorable economics or dilute focus, presenting the case against pursuing them
  • Compare build, buy, and partner options side-by-side to deliver clear recommendations to executives and the Board
  • Manage end-to-end acquisition processes from initial outreach to closing and integration
  • Develop financial models, valuations, commercial integrity assessments, and negotiation support for leadership
  • Execute cross-functional due diligence across legal, finance, security, product, engineering, and people teams
  • Direct post-acquisition integration and maintain an external network of investors, founders, executives, and advisors

Requirements

  • Over 8 years of experience across corporate strategy, corporate development, strategy consulting, or technology investing
  • Minimum of 5 years leading end-to-end acquisitions within the enterprise software sector
  • Technical familiarity with software development, the artificial intelligence landscape, and DevSecOps
  • Ability to communicate trade-offs clearly to executives and the Board in an asynchronous environment

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with open source ecosystems, security, artificial intelligence, and DevSecOps sectors

Benefits

  • Equity compensation
  • Employee stock purchase plan
