Job Description
Monzo operates as a digital-first banking platform headquartered in the United Kingdom, offering personal and business bank accounts, kids accounts, joint accounts, credit cards, savings, investments, and pension consolidation. The organization aims to simplify traditional banking and solve customer financial problems.
The company is seeking a Credit Model Validation Manager to join its growing second line of defence Credit Model Validation team within the Borrowing business. This position involves providing independent oversight, challenge, and expert validation across a diverse suite of credit models.
This is a generalist role rather than one dedicated to a single model type. Selected candidates will evaluate models used for IFRS 9 impairment, capital, stress testing, forecasting, credit decisioning, and unit economics. Responsibilities include reviewing credit risk assessments, performing statistical analysis and model replication, developing reusable analytical tools, contributing to the Model Risk Framework, and writing clear validation reports. The role suits analytical professionals with strong data capabilities who can examine data and code to form independent assessments.
The position is available either in the London office or through remote work within the UK. Compensation includes a salary ranging from £79,000 to £93,000 alongside performance-linked incentive awards and standard benefits.
Responsibilities
- Lead hands-on independent validation across the credit model portfolio for IFRS 9 impairment, capital, stress testing, forecasting, credit decisioning, and unit economics
- Review and challenge model-led credit risk assessments such as impairment adequacy, ICAAP, and stress testing through independent analysis
- Contribute to making model validation more consistent, scalable, and technology-enabled by building reusable analytical tools and testing AI-assisted approaches
- Monitor ongoing model performance to verify that lending models remain within established risk thresholds
- Perform statistical analyses, model replication, and challenger work to test assumptions and strengthen validation conclusions
- Improve and embed the Model Risk Framework by updating policies, standards, model inventory, governance, and validation approaches
- Write model validation reports and present findings to relevant committees
- Partner with first-line credit strategy, modelling, finance, and risk teams to support consistent governance standards
Requirements
- Practical experience in credit model development and validation across multiple model types
- Meaningful experience with IFRS 9 impairment, Internal Ratings Based capital models, stress testing, economic response, forecasting, decision science scorecards, or NPV and unit economics modelling
- Understanding of model risk management, independent validation, model governance, ongoing monitoring, and regulatory expectations across the lifecycle
- Strong analytical skills and deep knowledge of statistical techniques for credit and model risk
- Proficiency in SQL and Python to produce clear, tested code using version control, peer review, and documentation
- Ability to assess models in the context of accounting, capital, credit strategy, risk appetite, and customer outcomes
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to explain complex issues to non-experts
- Track record of building trusting stakeholder relationships and providing respectful challenge
Qualifications
- Experience with AI-assisted analytical or coding tools
- Experience with Tableau, Looker, or similar data visualization software
