Job Description
Monzo is a UK financial services company whose products include current accounts for individuals and for businesses, joint accounts, youth accounts for 16 and 17 year olds, a no-cost children's account, credit cards, and features for saving, investing and combining pensions. The company says it aims to solve customer problems and change lives, rather than simply sell products.
This Credit Risk Oversight Manager role sits in the second line of defence and checks the work of the lending teams. Monzo's borrowing business is growing fast, and the Credit Risk Oversight team is expanding to provide independent assurance and constructive challenge on credit risk across the lifecycle of each lending product.
Responsibilities include ongoing oversight of lending performance, building and refining monitoring metrics, supporting credit strategy changes for new products and pilots within the risk appetite, leading second-line thematic reviews, working with model validation and development teams, contributing to stress testing and forecasting, and helping maintain the Credit Risk Framework so that managing risk becomes part of everyone's day-to-day work.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in consumer or small business credit risk, ideally including unsecured products such as cards, loans or overdrafts. They should be able to build monitoring, spot early signs of trends, apply scorecard and NPV models to credit decisions, work with SQL as a must-have skill, and explain complex issues in plain language. Interest in using AI tools to improve credit and risk processes is welcome.
Pay is £79,900 to £95,000 plus incentive awards tied to performance. The role can be based in London, or done remotely from elsewhere in the UK with occasional meetings in London. The hiring steps are a recruiter call, a call with the hiring manager, a take-home task and two competency interviews covering technical skill and behaviours and values, usually over four to eight weeks.
