Job Description
Toptal operates a worldwide network of talent that helps companies scale teams on demand, and it describes itself as data-driven. This full-time, remote Data Analytics Engineer belongs to the company's business analytics center of excellence. The engineer lays the data foundation that supports the company's analytics work, owns the transformation layer and serves as product owner for the data warehouse. The aim is to make trustworthy data available to everyone who depends on it, including the analysts who use it, the engineers who build it, data scientists and AI agents.
Work centers on writing, reviewing and releasing SQL models that convert unprocessed data into dependable data assets. The engineer governs quality, accuracy, coverage and security, designs data structures and relationships, and maintains a data dictionary that traces every field to its origin. That documentation feeds both people and AI agents. The engineer also converts loose business requests into modeled data, defining grain, business rules and edge cases, and pushes back when a request would produce a misleading figure.
Other duties include fixing data incidents, reviewing teammates' code, watching the warehouse for quality and cost issues, and improving the agent playbooks and tools the team uses. The posting expects comfort with LLMs and agentic coding assistants, along with the discipline to check AI-written code before release. It also values a deep understanding of the company's metrics and the judgment to decide what matters.
Applicants need at least four years in analytics engineering, data engineering or data analysis, having personally shipped production models. Expert SQL, working Python, experience with BigQuery or Snowflake, and a transformation framework such as dbt or Dataform are required. A bachelor's degree is required, with engineering or a closely related technical discipline preferred. Applications and correspondence must be in English.

- Bachelor's degree, preferably in engineering or a closely related technical discipline
- Working acquaintance with schedulers such as Airflow, Dagster, Prefect or Cloud Composer
