Job Description
Cloudflare is seeking a Data Center Design Engineer to lead electrical design and end-to-end execution for infrastructure deployments, expansions, and upgrades. Operating within the global Infrastructure team, this position focuses on supporting compute, storage, and high-density liquid-cooled GPU installations to achieve generational improvements in cost, quality, and deployment speed. The person in this role will function as Cloudflare's electrical owner's representative, guiding projects from site qualification and basis of design through energization, commissioning, and operational handover. Key duties include managing data center provider implementation phases, reviewing mechanical and electrical diagrams, collaborating with supply chain and engineering teams, and conducting engineering studies to guarantee system reliability and compliance.
Cloudflare maintains a mission to help build a better Internet by running a massive global network that protects and accelerates internet properties ranging from individual bloggers to Fortune 500 enterprises. The company values builders who challenge conventional problems and apply curiosity alongside iteration. This position involves up to 25% travel for infrastructure audits, construction validation, and commercial processes. Qualified candidates must possess relevant experience in data center mechanical and electrical design, operations, deployment, or installation.

- Implement and maintain power consumption tracking tools while fulfilling reporting requests
- Travel up to 25% for infrastructure audits, construction validation, and commercial processes
- Perform electrical short-circuit, coordination, arc flash, and load flow engineering studies
- Serve as the electrical owner's representative defining design criteria, scopes, and acceptance requirements
- Oversee technical acceptance for staged commissioning, integrated systems testing, and failure-mode testing
Requirements
- Over five years of experience in data center mechanical and electrical design, operations, deployment, or installation
- Understanding of HVAC, chilled water systems, condenser water systems, and building management systems
- Familiarity with basic electrical theory, circuit design, and single- and three-phase power systems
- Knowledge of data center M&E infrastructure design concepts and Uptime Institute Tier Classifications
- Experience acting as an owner's technical representative and governing external delivery partners
- Expertise in medium- and low-voltage distribution, transformers, generators, switchgear, and rack-level power architectures
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification or equivalent
- Degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or IT
- Experience in large-scale mission-critical facility infrastructure design, construction, commissioning, or operations
- Familiarity with industry standards and building codes including NFPA 70/NEC, IEEE, NEMA, ANSI, UMC, ASHRAE, UBC, LEED, and Uptime Institute standards
