Job Description
Wise is hiring an Engineering Lead for its embedded finance team in London. The team builds an embedded finance platform for partner companies including Google, Deel, Ramp and Agoda. These partners use Wise infrastructure to offer international payment products to their own customers. The role is full time and on-site. It is hands-on, and the lead is expected to design, build and maintain the team's services.
Alongside coding, the lead mentors and supports a small group of engineers as they grow, guides technical choices toward reliable and scalable products, and partners with a product manager on the team's long-term vision and roadmap. The work includes coordinating with solutions engineers and business developers to learn about partner pain points, collaborating across Wise to widen what the platform offers, and owning the team's services and product quality.
The posting asks for a record of guiding and coaching strong engineering groups, and solid hands-on work in Java or a similar stack. Familiarity with microservices and architectures built on events, careful relational database design, and a commitment to good coding practice, continuous delivery and code reviews are expected. The lead should think about customer impact rather than only the technical implementation, and communicate clearly with teams and stakeholders. Candidates who have only some of the listed skills are encouraged to apply, since the company supports learning. The base salary is £105,000 to £135,000, plus restricted stock units.
