As the top merchant acquirer in Nigeria, the organization handles a majority of the nation's point-of-sale volume and processes billions in yearly digital transactions. The enterprise is currently hiring an Engineering Manager to guide cross-functional technology teams and oversee the end-to-end execution of projects.
This position involves translating product goals into structured technical plans, evaluating architectural alignment, and maintaining high engineering standards. The ideal candidate will orchestrate collaboration across product management, quality assurance, user experience, and engineering groups while remaining hands-on with critical initiatives like code reviews and design decisions. This role is performed on-site.
Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end project execution and delivery across cross-functional product teams
- Assess business and product requirements for technical feasibility and architectural consistency
- Partner with product managers, engineers, and designers to prioritize and refine the backlog
- Plan sprint execution by setting timelines, delivery milestones, and managing dependencies
- Monitor team capacity and velocity to optimize bandwidth and resource distribution
- Participate directly in code reviews, guide architectural decisions, and maintain technical standards
- Ensure observability and monitoring for all owned services to meet defined SLIs and SLOs
- Collaborate on post-release product metrics to encourage continuous improvement
- Conduct regular performance reviews, mentor engineers, and provide constructive feedback
- Manage stakeholder expectations and facilitate communication between leadership and teams
Requirements
- Minimum 8 to 10 years of professional background as a software developer or engineer
- At least 5 years of practical experience constructing production systems utilizing Java and Spring Boot
- Not less than 3 years of engineering leadership history supervising high-performing teams
- Familiarity with Agile practices including sprint planning, iterative delivery, and backlog grooming
- Experience with project management software to track delivery timelines
- Capability to investigate complex production errors and direct incident responses
Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline
- Exposure to frontend technologies alongside strong backend engineering expertise
