The company seeks a technical Engineering Manager to lead the Dedicated Platform Integration team. In this remote position, the individual will guide a group responsible for integrating third-party and modular features within the GitLab ecosystem for Dedicated platform hosted software-as-a-service. This role suits a technical leader who combines deep expertise in large-scale distributed systems with strong operational instincts and a commitment to building high-performing teams.
Key responsibilities include partnering with product management for execution, maintaining high availability of Dedicated infrastructure, automating scalability, minimizing toil, and driving incident management best practices. Candidates must bring a background in owning large-scale distributed services, fleet management experience using Terraform and AWS, operational excellence with strict service-level objectives, and experience managing distributed and remote teams.
Responsibilities
- Partner with the product manager to balance speed and quality in execution
- Maintain high availability of Dedicated infrastructure while automating for scalability and tenant growth
- Establish clear direction and eliminate unnecessary manual toil through DevOps ownership
- Refine owned artifacts to optimize platforms for self-service production ownership
- Recruit, onboard, and develop productive team members
- Model an AI-driven mindset and process simplification through proof of concepts
- Lead incident resolution, escalation, and the codification of best practices
- Prioritize initiatives using a data-driven approach focused on risk and technical debt management
Requirements
- Proven track record building and owning large-scale distributed services
- Experience with fleet management products, AWS, Terraform, and automated provisioning at scale across 20 or more clusters
- Experience driving operational excellence and maintaining services with strict service-level objectives
- History of leveraging AI tooling to improve team productivity
- Background in building and managing accountable, high-performing team cultures
- Ability to drive complex projects to completion independently
- Experience leading distributed and remote teams
