Job Description
This full-time, remote Engineering Manager role sits in the Ingest team within the Observability department. The team builds and maintains setup and rollout tooling that helps customers go from wanting observability to having it. Its work covers a cloud control plane for managing large numbers of Observability Collectors, a Kubernetes Helm chart for deploying collection, and an Instrumentation Hub that combines the two into a one-command setup.
The manager leads and develops backend and frontend engineers spread across a distributed group, giving regular feedback and supporting each engineer's career growth. The role works closely with go-to-market teams so that customers and prospects succeed with their collection setup, and with product and engineering leaders to make sure the team's tools fit the end-to-end experience of Grafana Cloud.
The manager guides projects from early ideation through launch, fosters a psychologically safe environment for experimentation, and works across team boundaries on customer problems. The posting limits consideration to candidates in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Sweden and Spain.
Experience with observability, especially OpenTelemetry, or with building a central control plane for fleets of collectors is a strong advantage. The ideal candidate understands distributed systems principles, is comfortable working across time zones, and uses AI-assisted tooling in daily work. Engineers have access to a company-funded budget for AI coding assistants and to frontier models from several providers, with strong code review expected. The posted base range for the UK is GBP 103,000 to GBP 129,000.
