Job Description
Moniepoint is hiring an Engineering Manager for its Site Reliability Engineering tooling team. Moniepoint Inc. presents itself as a financial platform for Africa, serving around 20 million businesses and individuals each month with payments, banking, lending, cross-border transfers and business management services. It describes itself as the largest merchant acquirer in Nigeria, and says its subsidiaries handle more than $250 billion of digital payment value each year.
The manager takes charge of delivery for the team. Duties include judging whether product requirements are feasible within the current architecture, breaking them down into epics and technical tasks, and refining tasks with product managers and engineers. The manager plans sprints with clear goals, timelines and milestones, flags task dependencies early, tracks team velocity so people are assigned sensibly, and coordinates with stakeholders to prevent bottlenecks. Engineering practices that support teamwork are also part of the job.
The manager stays close to the code, taking part in reviews and making sure suitable architecture patterns and coding practices are used on critical work. Monitoring and observability must be in place for every service owned, measured against defined service level indicators and objectives. Together with product managers, the manager publishes post-release product metrics so stakeholders stay informed, and leads blameless root-cause reviews after incidents.
The ideal candidate has at least eight years working as a software developer, engineer or similar, at least five of them hands-on, and at least three years in leadership. Strong grounding in agile methods, sprint planning and backlog management is needed, along with solid backend experience. Frontend knowledge is an advantage. The person should understand how CI and CD pipelines work, be comfortable with planning and metrics tools, and communicate risks clearly.
