Job Description

Halter develops agricultural technology designed to help farmers and graziers manage livestock operations more sustainably and productively. The company provides a system utilizing specialized collars and towers that allow producers to guide cattle without traditional physical barriers, dogs, or vehicles. To support its expansion in Australia, Halter is hiring a Field Operations Specialist based in Victoria. This position serves as one of the organization's initial hardware technicians in the region.

In this capacity, the chosen professional will establish and manage local operational frameworks, visit agricultural properties, and ensure the hardware infrastructure functions reliably. The role involves troubleshooting technical malfunctions, delivering equipment to agricultural producers, participating in an on-call rotation for tower-related incidents, and collecting data to enhance operational efficiency. Because agricultural producers are spread across Australia, regular travel—including three to four days per week and occasional nights away from home—is expected.

This position is well-suited for a hands-on individual with practical technical skills who thrives in an early-stage market entry environment characterized by ambiguity. Candidates should be comfortable working independently, managing their own schedules, and translating field observations into actionable insights for engineering and product teams in Auckland and Australia.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the upkeep, repair, and maintenance systems for on-farm infrastructure across Australia
  • Identify and diagnose hardware issues, sharing prompt feedback with relevant internal teams
  • Visit farms to assist with deployments, support installations, and troubleshoot equipment
  • Gather and interpret data from hardware to optimize processes and spot potential problems early
  • Participate in a global on-call rotation to address tower incidents and find timely solutions
  • Collaborate across different teams to maintain alignment and ensure positive outcomes for customers
  • Travel regularly throughout the region, typically spending three to four days per week and some nights away from home

Requirements

  • Possess practical, hands-on experience with tools, electrical work, construction, networking, or equipment fitting
  • Demonstrate a proactive, self-managed approach to getting tasks done on schedule
  • Exhibit strong communication skills to translate field observations into clear feedback for remote teams
  • Be comfortable operating in an early-stage market entry environment with ambiguity and imperfect conditions
  • Willingness to undertake regular and sometimes spontaneous travel across the region

Core Skills

Benefits

  • Opportunity to participate in a personal growth fund
  • Work involving industry-transforming agricultural technology
