Job Description
Databricks is a data and AI company whose platform is used by more than 20,000 organizations, including 70 percent of the Fortune 500. The company is headquartered in San Francisco and has more than 30 offices worldwide. This full-time, remote Forward Deployed Engineer role works directly with customers to build and put into production data and AI solutions on the Databricks platform.
The engineer owns architecture and design decisions and builds end-to-end systems covering data pipelines, AI and application work. Work includes production solution delivery, reference architectures, custom applications, data ingestion and integration of machine learning and AI models. The role is billable, and projects are expected to be completed to specification.
The engineer embeds with customer teams and works with stakeholders from hands-on technical staff up to executives. The job involves guiding customers on architecture, bootstrapping or implementing projects so they understand and adopt Databricks, and coordinating with Databricks engineers, project leads, architects and support staff to resolve product and implementation issues. The engineer also contributes reusable accelerators and frameworks and feeds product and implementation feedback into the Databricks roadmap.
The posting asks for six-plus years of work in data pipelines, data platforms, analytics or software development. Coding in Python, Scala or JavaScript/TypeScript is needed, along with deep experience with Apache Spark and its runtime internals. Experience across two or more major clouds, deep in at least one, plus CI/CD, MLOps and AI APIs is expected. Travel to customers is about 20 percent of the time, and a Databricks certification is mentioned in the posting.

- Background designing and rolling out production-grade data platforms and apps from start to finish
- Experience delivering technical projects with control of scope, deadlines and results
- Documentation and whiteboarding skills
