Job Description

As an FP&A AI Architect, you will join the Enterprise AIT team to spearhead the technical and process architecture that shifts financial planning away from manual spreadsheet reliance into an automated, insight-generating operation.
This position bridges the gap between traditional finance functions—such as driver-based planning, variance analysis, and board reporting—and advanced data and AI engineering. You will collaborate closely with the CFO organization, accounting, data teams, and engineering units to define multi-year strategies, build machine learning-assisted forecasting systems, and construct agentic workflows. Successful candidates must be deeply analytical, rigorous regarding data trust, and capable of implementing robust governance and control frameworks.
Gusto offers a full-time remote role with a targeted base compensation between USD 185,000 and 205,000 per year, alongside equity in the form of RSUs and competitive benefits.
Responsibilities
- Design and establish the multi-year strategy and roadmap for AI-driven planning, forecasting, and reporting
- Architect driver-based, machine learning-assisted forecasting systems for revenue, headcount, operating expenses, and cash flow
- Develop agentic workflows for variance commentary, flux analysis, scenario modeling, and quarterly business review narratives
- Partner with data engineering to maintain governed data models linking the general ledger, CRM, billing, and human resources information systems
- Establish evaluation protocols, human-in-the-loop checkpoints, and audit trails meeting security, privacy, and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements
- Lead build-versus-buy evaluations for orchestration frameworks, large language model providers, and planning software platforms
- Mentor analysts and engineers while driving internal adoption of artificial intelligence tools across finance operations
- Track and report performance metrics regarding cycle-time reductions, forecast accuracy, decision latency, and analyst capacity
Requirements
- Ten or more years of professional background in corporate finance, financial planning and analysis, data science, finance engineering, or finance systems
- At least three years of experience designing or leading advanced automation, artificial intelligence, or machine learning solutions for finance
- Strong proficiency in financial planning fundamentals including driver-based modeling, operating plans, rolling forecasts, variance analysis, and SaaS or fintech metrics
- Hands-on technical background working with large language models, agentic systems, retrieval-augmented generation, prompting, tool use, evaluations, and classical time-series forecasting
- Programming competency in SQL and Python
- Experience utilizing modern data stacks such as Snowflake, Databricks, and dbt along with business intelligence tools
- Familiarity with enterprise planning platforms and enterprise resource planning or general ledger systems
- Demonstrated history of delivering production-grade solutions complying with security reviews, data governance, and Sarbanes-Oxley mandates
Qualifications
- Prior professional background working in SaaS finance, fintech, payroll, or human resources technology sectors
- Experience building internal tools in collaboration with engineering teams
- Familiarity with Model Context Protocol style integrations and artificial intelligence governance frameworks
- Possession of a CPA, CFA, or an advanced quantitative academic degree
