Gusto is looking for a remote HR Consultant to drive people operations for small business clients. Gusto serves over 500,000 small businesses nationwide by handling payroll, health insurance, 401(k) plans, and human resources administration. In this position, you will act as the primary point of contact for assigned clients, supporting their human resources needs while scaling operations in dynamic environments.

Day-to-day responsibilities include helping clients recruit talent, maintain regulatory compliance, manage performance, administer benefits and payroll, and execute strategic workforce planning. Additionally, team members at Gusto are expected to actively engage with artificial intelligence tools relevant to their tasks.
Gusto provides competitive base compensation along with equity and benefits for full-time personnel. While the position is remote, employees based near physical offices in Denver, San Francisco, New York City, or Scottsdale may be required to work on-site approximately two to three days per week.
Responsibilities
- Lead client organizations to achieve people objectives including talent attraction, hiring, onboarding, staff retention, and regulatory compliance
- Drive business and talent initiatives that support short and long-term goals for high performance and operational excellence
- Communicate with leadership and employees to coach on performance management and productivity
- Engage in strategic workforce planning by assessing organizational capabilities and identifying talent gaps
- Translate current and future business needs into comprehensive people plans
- Provide organizational development support through design solutions, leadership coaching, and change management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned clients while maintaining client human resources data
- Help administer payroll, benefits, and general human resources functions
Requirements
- Have four to eight years of human resources experience as a people operations specialist or generalist across various industries and scales
- Demonstrate strong proficiency with cutting-edge workplace technology and modern productivity tools like Google Suite, Slack, Asana, and Zoom
- Possess significant experience with workforce analytics using data and reporting to guide strategic choices
- Maintain the ability to manage multiple stakeholders and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Engage actively with artificial intelligence tools relevant to the role
