Job Description
Waabi is an AI company led by Raquel Urtasun. Its autonomy software runs on commercial trucks and is now being prepared for robotaxis. It has offices in Pittsburgh, Dallas, San Francisco and Toronto, and its backers include investors in AI, the auto sector, logistics and deep tech. This remote, full-time role is for a lead technical program manager who will coordinate the robotaxi effort.
The manager takes the Waabi Driver from trucking into robotaxi service, owning the plan for putting the system into the commercial fleet. The role links engineering, operations and outside partners, helps shape go-to-market and partnership strategy, and keeps the rider experience both safe and scalable.
Core duties include keeping a single integrated program plan current, covering milestones, cross-team dependencies and the critical path across autonomy, vehicle hardware, safety validation, fleet operations and commercial launch. The manager tracks risk, writes concise executive updates, and defines indicators showing whether the system is prepared to run without drivers, such as operational design domain coverage, disengagement rates and rider experience. The plan must also be sequenced against the trucking roadmap and shared platform work.
The ideal candidate has over ten years of technical program management, ideally in AV work, robotics or other domains where safety is critical, across hardware and software. They can construct program structure in a young, fast company, lead through influence rather than authority, and communicate with both executives and engineers.
Responsibilities
- Own the roadmap for placing the Waabi Driver into the commercial fleet, including robotaxi integration
- Maintain one integrated program plan with milestones, dependencies and the critical path across autonomy, hardware, safety, operations and launch
- Surface risks early with data-backed options and clear owners with dates
- Plan market readiness: vehicles, operational design domain coverage, safety sign-off, facilities and permits
- Partner with the Autonomy, Safety, Commercial and Operations leads to convert strategy into workable roadmaps
- Prepare clear executive briefings on status, exposure and progress
- Define and monitor readiness metrics such as operational design domain coverage, disengagement rates and rider experience
- Create scalable tracking processes and tooling so one reliable record exists as the program and fleet expand
- Align the robotaxi plan with trucking and shared platform efforts
Requirements
- Over ten years leading intricate programs that cut across functions, moving from vague beginnings to shipped results
- Experience in AV work, robotics or other fields where errors carry safety stakes, spanning hardware and software
- Skill in building program structure from nothing: dependency mapping, risk registers, executive reporting and milestone tracking
- Working fluency in hardware, software and autonomy or machine learning, enough to challenge assumed dependencies
- Strong writing and speaking, including executive one-page memos and technical review sessions
- Influence-based leadership that aligns teams without formal authority
- Hands-on skill with trackers like Jira or Asana, or comparable planning platforms
- Bachelor's or master's in engineering, computing or a related technical area, or equivalent experience
Qualifications
- Experience launching driverless services, expanding operating domains or deploying robotic transport in new markets
- Knowledge of system safety assurance, operational domain limits and safety sign-off gates
- Background building fleet management, remote command or real-time operations centers
- Experience coordinating with government relations, counsel and communications staff on local operating permits
- Use of AI tools to streamline operational tracking and speed decisions
Core Skills
Benefits
- Competitive pay and equity awards
- Health, dental and vision insurance for staff working full-time
- Unlimited time off
- Flexible scheduling and support for working from home
- Snacks, drinks and catered food on in-office days
- Team events held on site, off site and online
