Smartsheet is seeking a remote-eligible Manager, Engineering to join its expanding operations in Bulgaria. As a global leader in Intelligent Work Management, the company develops platforms that combine human teams with AI agents to automate workflows, manage projects, and build secure solutions using no-code tools. Since establishing a presence in Bulgaria in October 2024, the engineering organization has grown to over 75 engineers.
In this role, the selected candidate will lead and mentor a team of software engineers, oversee product development, and collaborate with product management, UX, and customer teams. The position involves establishing lean engineering processes, driving career development, and hiring exceptional talent. This role suits experienced engineering leaders who possess a strong background in software development and scalable cloud applications, and who want to contribute to an expanding international tech environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage a team of software engineers to deliver products to customers
- Oversee the development and success of one or more products
- Lead, coach, and inspire team members to achieve software quality
- Collaborate with partners across product management, UX, and customer teams
- Establish lean engineering processes emphasizing collaboration and rapid iteration
- Hire and grow the team by promoting engineering excellence and career development
Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience
- 3+ years managing software engineering teams
- Deep software development skills in at least one systems development language such as Java, Go, C++, or Python
- Experience with modern technology stacks and building scalable, highly available customer-facing cloud applications
- Legally eligible to work in Bulgaria on an ongoing basis
- Proficiency in English
