The company is currently hiring a Manager II, Engineering, Ads Serving Infrastructure to lead the Ads Serving Platform team in San Francisco. This position is suited for an experienced engineering leader who can manage technical strategy, drive operational excellence, and scale high-throughput, low-latency platforms.
The person in this role will oversee the complete lifecycle of ad requests, ensuring reliability, performance, cost efficiency, and compliance. Responsibilities include building and developing a team of software engineers, modernizing frameworks, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to accelerate product iteration. The position requires working from the office for in-person collaboration one to two times per week, requiring candidates to live within a commutable distance from the San Francisco or Palo Alto offices.
Applicants should possess a background in managing engineering teams and building backend or infrastructure platforms, alongside expertise in distributed systems and online serving. Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, Go, or Python is necessary. Responsibilities
- Build and lead a software engineering team through hiring, performance management, and career development
- Direct the engineering team and technical strategy for a high-throughput, low-latency ad serving platform
- Guarantee platform reliability, high availability, and operational excellence across the ad-request lifecycle
- Optimize infrastructure performance, cost efficiency, and compliance controls
- Enhance developer productivity and platform flexibility for product and machine learning feature integrations
- Apply artificial intelligence to expedite analysis, debugging, design exploration, and iteration
- Maintain quality standards via design and code reviews, documentation, and operational excellence
- Mentor engineers and scale technical leadership across the organization
Requirements
- Demonstrated management experience leading software engineering teams and constructing backend or infrastructure platforms
- Proven background in hiring, performance management, career development, and inclusive team culture building
- Expertise in distributed systems, online serving, low-latency services, or infrastructure platforms
- Ability to balance tradeoffs across latency, reliability, scalability, cost, and developer experience
- Strong communication and collaboration skills working with technical and cross-functional partners
- Proficiency in programming languages including Java, C++, Go, or Python
- Experience meeting strict serving latency SLAs, operational targets, and optimizing cost-per-impression at scale
- Demonstrated capability to use AI to improve engineering workflows with rigorous testing and validation
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent experience
- Experience with ads delivery, recommendation or search serving, retrieval, ranking, or experimentation systems
- Experience with serving-framework migrations, platform consolidation, or developer tooling
- Experience with observability, production debugging, traffic management, or incident response
