Job Description
Monzo is hiring a Senior Manager for Operational Tax to lead the handling of taxes that touch customers, including the tax reporting customers must file, across the UK and Europe. The role supports the Tax team as well as the wider finance and product teams and reports to the Tax Governance Lead. It can be done remotely within the UK, with occasional work from the London office expected. Pay is £94,700 to £111,400 plus incentive awards tied to performance.
The posting treats customer-facing tax as part of product design. The manager would be the operational tax specialist for the business, making sure the company meets its own obligations as it launches products and enters new markets, while making it easy for customers to meet theirs. Areas of ownership include processes and controls for BBSI, ISA reporting, FATCA, CRS, the Corporate Criminal Offence and CT61 returns, plus overseas equivalents. The manager would build new processes as products change, collaborate with product and regional teams from day one to design reporting and test edge cases, and keep track of UK and EU tax law, regulation and case law.
The role also involves collaborating with product, fincrime, engineering, legal, EU next-market and finance groups to resolve operational tax problems. The posting asks for a qualified accountant or tax adviser, or someone qualified through significant experience, with substantial in-house experience in operational tax. Applicants should be comfortable working largely on their own, hands-on in getting things done, and careful when working through processes.
The hiring process has four stages: a 30-minute recruiter call, a 30-minute video call with a tax team member, a 60-minute case study session with the hiring manager plus a tax team member, and a 45-minute stakeholder interview. The posting says the process takes three to four weeks. Benefits include a yearly learning allowance of £1,000, flexible working hours, and a MacBook and home-working support for fully remote staff.
