Gusto is looking for a People Process Transformation Lead to join its team in San Francisco on a hybrid basis. Gusto provides payroll, health insurance, 401(k)s, and HR services to support over 500,000 small businesses nationwide. In this role, the selected professional will steer the evolution of the People Operations ecosystem by identifying ways to simplify, standardize, and automate processes while ensuring operational excellence.
This position sits within the People Systems & Operations organization and reports directly to leadership. The transformation lead collaborates across legal, finance, human resources, and business units to overhaul the employee lifecycle from hire to retirement. Responsibilities include supervising HRIS operations and the People Services team, utilizing artificial intelligence and automation tools, building business cases for efficiency, and guiding enterprise-scale transformation initiatives.
This role is ideal for a strategic operational expert with extensive management experience in human resources operations or business transformation. The schedule requires working from the office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a multi-year strategy for transforming People Operations processes
- Analyze employee lifecycle workflows to identify friction, inefficiencies, and automation opportunities
- Partner with People Technology to implement workflow automation, artificial intelligence, and self-service tools
- Oversee HRIS Operations to ensure data governance, transactional compliance, and accuracy
- Manage the HR Service Center to optimize support triage, case management, and knowledge sharing
- Build KPI dashboards to measure efficiency, quality, service levels, and employee satisfaction
- Coach managers and individual contributors across HRIS Operations and People Services
Requirements
- Ten or more years of experience in People Operations, HR Operations, Business Operations, Process Excellence, or Consulting
- Five or more years of experience leading managers and operational teams
- Demonstrated success in leading enterprise-scale process transformation initiatives
- Experience managing HR shared services, HR operations, or HRIS operations
- Strong understanding of HR technology ecosystems such as Workday, case management platforms, and workflow tools
- Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, business process management, or operational excellence methodologies
Qualifications
- Experience working in high-growth technology companies
- Background in implementing HR technology or enterprise workflow platforms
- Familiarity with artificial intelligence-enabled workflow automation and employee support technologies
- Lean Six Sigma certification or equivalent operational excellence training
- Experience leading organizational change and large cross-functional programs
