Job Description
Vercel, which describes itself as an agentic infrastructure company, is hiring for the role of People Systems Manager, Workday, which will set up the groundwork for how people-systems technology operates. Vercel recently adopted Workday as its system of record and is still expanding what it can do. The role is hands-on and individual-contributor in nature, with substantive authority over Workday's day-to-day running.
The manager sets standards, makes architecture decisions and builds systems that scale. Responsibilities span the Workday configuration, its security design and the process framework that governs transactions. The role also covers access rules by role, separation of duties, change governance and auditing, using automation to support SOX and SOC 2 work and public-company readiness. Other duties include designing business processes for stock awards, commission payouts, one-time payments and clawbacks, working alongside the Total Rewards team, Finance, Payroll and Legal. The manager also sets data governance and reporting standards, runs release cycles and regression testing, and coordinates with audit teams on documentation, process walkthroughs and fixes.
Vercel is creating a headless style of People technology, where employees and managers start transactions and reach their data from tools they already use, such as Slack and internal apps. The manager partners with integration engineers so that this is possible without weakening governance or data integrity.
The posting asks for five-plus years working directly in Workday HCM, spanning security, process design, reporting and configuration. Experience creating governance frameworks and controls aimed at SOX audit readiness is required, along with Workday reporting and data management skills. Background in Workday Payroll or intricate pay processes, plus AI or automation for administration work, counts as a bonus.
The San Francisco base pay range is 167,000 to 204,000 USD. Pay outside San Francisco may be adjusted. Candidates who can commute to the San Francisco, New York, London or Berlin offices would be in the office on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. Candidates farther away would work fully remote.
