Supabase is seeking a Postgres Deployment Engineer to join its PostgreSQL team in a remote position. The company develops a Postgres-centric platform offering database, authentication, storage, edge functions, realtime capabilities, and vector search features. In this role, the selected candidate will focus on product stability and deployment processes, serving as a liaison between infrastructure and product teams to enhance release reliability and manage upgrades.
The position requires collaboration with the PostgreSQL team to shape technical strategies and refine internal procedures. Key duties involve packaging software via Nix and flakes within the supabase/postgres GitHub repository, overseeing PostgreSQL lifecycles, and scaling platform release frameworks to support developer self-service. The person in this role will also optimize CI/CD pipelines, expand GitHub Actions, resolve production issues, and guide the engineering team in utilizing Nix.

Responsibilities
- Package software into the supabase/postgres repository utilizing Nix with flakes and transition traditional packaging methods to Nix
- Oversee PostgreSQL lifecycles by executing timely major, minor, and extension upgrades
- Scale platform release systems to facilitate developer self-service
- Enhance CI/CD pipelines, team tooling, and testing or release strategies through GitHub Actions
- Identify and resolve production issues affecting customer deployments
- Establish best practices and automated tests to maximize deployment stability and minimize risks
- Mentor engineering team members on contributing to and utilizing Nix-based workflows
Requirements
- Minimum of three years of experience working with PostgreSQL and its ecosystem, covering performance optimization and extensions
- Demonstrated expertise in infrastructure management, tooling, and optimization
- Proficiency in the Nix package management system with flakes, alongside Ansible, Packer, Docker, QEMU/KVM, AWS, and Kubernetes
- Experience building applications for multiple architectures specifically targeting Linux and Darwin or macOS aarch64
- Familiarity with polyglot environments including builds for Go, C or C++, JavaScript, and Rust-based projects
- Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical audiences
- Background working within asynchronous or globally distributed teams
