Job Description
Twilio is a communications company that serves a large base of companies and developers, with a remote-first way of working. This principal-level machine learning role is on the Customer Memory team, which is creating the core AI and machine learning capabilities that tell applications, human agents and AI agents who a customer is, what that customer has done and how to reach them well.
The principal engineer leads rapid research cycles on contextual intelligence and large-scale machine learning problems. Work includes building new functionality in a product that is being adopted quickly, designing experiments around loosely defined ideas and completing them within weeks, researching LLM orchestration, retrieval and data-driven personalisation, and delivering systems that stay dependable at Twilio's volume. The engineer is expected to adopt new AI development tools quickly rather than rebuild common components.
The posting asks for more than ten years of applied machine learning or AI experience and a track record of owning ambitious systems end to end. Candidates should be proficient in Python and have built cloud platforms on AWS, GCP or Azure that handle large data volumes or real-time predictions. Deep experience running production AI systems built around language model pipelines, embedding models and vector databases is needed, along with a strong command of statistical learning, transformer models and LLMs. The ability to lift a team's standards through mentoring and design reviews, without formal management authority, is essential. The role is remote and based in India, in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Maharashtra and New Delhi.
