Job Description

Gusto is looking for a Product Manager to join its Business Money team and lead SMB Banking initiatives. The company operates a platform providing payroll, health insurance, 401(k)s, and HR services to support over 500,000 small businesses. This is an early-stage, ground-floor role focused on taking the company's business checking accounts from pre-beta through launch and broad scale. The ideal candidate thrives in zero-to-one environments, possesses a strong bias toward action, and is comfortable navigating ambiguity.

In this position, the product manager will handle core banking workstreams, manage acquisition and funnel growth through continuous experimentation, and leverage the payroll ecosystem to create distinct financial features. Team members at Gusto utilize AI tools to automate tasks and accelerate development. Candidates should expect to work on-site approximately two to three days per week out of company offices in Denver, San Francisco, or New York City.

Responsibilities

  • Manage core workstreams encompassing business banking, such as onboarding, identity verification, account linking, funding, payments, cards, and ongoing servicing.
  • Drive growth and adoption metrics throughout the entire funnel from initial acquisition to an active, funded account.
  • Run continuous experimentation routines to optimize user funnels and performance.
  • Act as a payments and fintech infrastructure expert to design resilient systems.
  • Integrate banking capabilities with the wider Gusto platform to make accounts a primary funding source.
  • Design self-serve pathways to minimize customer friction and reduce reliance on support queues.
  • Coordinate daily across engineering, design, data, risk, compliance, legal, and operations functions.
  • Collaborate alongside external partners including banking providers, infrastructure platforms, and card processors.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators including deposit growth, account opening rates, and platform primacy.

Requirements

  • Bring a minimum of seven years of product management experience working within fintech, banking, or related industries.
  • Demonstrate hands-on familiarity with business banking, BaaS platforms, deposit products, or money movement infrastructure.
  • Possess experience operating in zero-to-one environments to bring products from pre-beta stages to market.
  • Show a proven history of executing structured experimentation practices.
  • Understand regulatory and operational complexities associated with financial products.
  • Work on-site approximately two to three days weekly from designated offices in Denver, San Francisco, or New York City.

Qualifications

  • Gain extra consideration for prior background handling KYB flows, onboarding processes, ledgering systems, or partner bank relationships.

Core Skills

Benefits

  • Receive competitive base pay.
  • Participate in an employee equity program through restricted stock units.
