Gusto is looking for a Product Manager, Business Money – SMB Banking to work on a hybrid schedule in San Francisco. Gusto provides payroll, health insurance, 401(k), and HR solutions to over half a million small businesses across the United States. In this role, you will take ownership of the SMB Banking platform, serving as a foundational part of the company's financial operating system for small businesses.

This is a ground-floor opportunity to guide a new product from its early pre-beta phase through public launch and subsequent scaling. The person in this position will design self-serve financial products, connect banking services directly to payroll systems, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including engineering, design, legal, and risk. Ideal candidates thrive in fast-paced environments, possess strong experimentation habits, and are comfortable dealing with ambiguity.

All full-time staff members at Gusto receive competitive base pay, equity in the form of restricted stock units, and standard benefits. The organization operates with physical offices in San Francisco, Denver, and New York City, requiring hybrid team members to work on-site approximately two to three days each week.

Responsibilities

  • Manage core workstreams for small business banking covering applications, identity verification, account linking, funding, payments, cards, and servicing
  • Drive growth and adoption metrics throughout the entire user funnel from acquisition to active, funded accounts
  • Handle experimentation processes continuously to optimize funnel performance and learn from user behavior
  • Design features leveraging Gusto's payroll ecosystem to link accounts with daily operational cash flow needs
  • Create self-serve mechanisms to address customer bottlenecks directly within the product interface
  • Partner daily with cross-functional partners across engineering, design, data, risk, compliance, legal, and operations
  • Coordinate with external banking partners, infrastructure providers, and card processors
  • Establish and track key performance indicators including account creation, funding rates, deposit expansion, and customer primacy

Requirements

  • Bring at least seven years of product management experience within fintech, banking, or related sectors
  • Possess practical familiarity with business banking, banking-as-a-service platforms, deposit mechanisms, or money movement infrastructure
  • Demonstrate experience operating successfully in early-stage, zero-to-one product environments
  • Show a proven history of conducting structured experimentation practices
  • Navigate the regulatory and operational complexities associated with financial products
