Gusto is looking for a R&D Insights and Operations - Growth professional to join its team in San Francisco. Gusto provides payroll, health insurance, retirement plans, and HR services to support over 500,000 small businesses nationwide. This position sits within Gusto's internal Strategy and Business Operations function, embedded directly inside the Growth organization. The role operates initially as an individual contributor, focusing on high-impact problem solving, data-driven analysis, and building operational rhythms before potentially expanding into leadership duties. Ideal candidates are comfortable navigating ambiguity, leverage artificial intelligence tools for workflow efficiency, and possess extensive experience in strategic operations at high-growth technology companies.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and scope high-leverage growth opportunities to deliver data-backed recommendations and execution plans.
- Establish operational cadences, prioritization frameworks, and shared roadmaps across growth R&D, product R&D, and go-to-market teams.
- Apply analytical rigor regarding attribution, lifetime value modeling, and experimentation disciplines to guide resource allocation.
- Design automated systems and technology-driven operating structures rather than relying solely on headcount expansion.
- Partner closely with growth leadership as a trusted advisor to flag risks, challenge suboptimal approaches, and streamline cross-functional alignment.
- Integrate artificial intelligence workflows into daily synthesis, planning, and reporting tasks.
Requirements
- Fifteen or more years of professional experience in operations, business operations, or strategy and operations at a high-growth technology company.
- Demonstrated background in scaling a growth function from an earlier stage.
- Direct expertise in growth decision-making frameworks, including testing methodologies, lifetime value modeling, and attribution.
- Experience bridging the gap between growth and go-to-market or product and sales teams.
- Strong proficiency in financial tracking and reporting across a complex organization.
