Gusto is looking for a Recruiting Operations and Transformation Lead to head the evolution of its hiring ecosystem. Operating out of the People Operations, Services & Technology organization, this role sits at the crossroads of strategy, technology, and operations. The person chosen will shape multi-year transformation strategies, optimize end-to-end talent acquisition workflows, and manage core operational groups including Candidate Experience and Recruiting Operations.
Gusto provides a platform handling payroll, health insurance, 401(k) plans, and HR to support over half a million small businesses across the United States. Offices are situated in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. The ideal candidate will combine deep expertise in process improvement with strong leadership capabilities to drive automation, simplify procedures, and scale operational efficiency.
Team members at Gusto are expected to actively engage with relevant artificial intelligence tools. Daily responsibilities include building business cases for transformation, partnering with People Technology to implement custom solutions like InviteOS and Greenhouse, establishing operational governance, and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders across legal, finance, and IT.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a multi-year strategy for transforming recruiting processes
- Analyze the complete candidate and hiring lifecycle to eliminate friction and manual work
- Redesign workflows leveraging automation, Lean, and service design principles
- Partner with People Technology to deploy AI-native platforms and workflow automations
- Oversee Recruiter Operations to guarantee accuracy, compliance, and throughput
- Manage the Candidate Experience team to optimize support, scheduling, and self-service
- Define operational standards, KPI dashboards, and governance across recruiting operations
- Coach managers and individual contributors while fostering a culture of continuous improvement
Requirements
- Ten or more years of experience in talent acquisition operations, recruiting operations, business operations, process excellence, or consulting
- Five or more years of experience leading operational teams and managers
- Proven background in leading enterprise-scale process transformation projects
- Demonstrated experience managing candidate support, service organizations, or recruiting operations
- Familiarity with applicant tracking systems, sourcing tools, and case management platforms
- Practical application of operational excellence methodologies such as Lean or business process management
Qualifications
- Prior work experience within high-growth technology companies
- Background implementing enterprise workflow platforms or recruiting technology
- Familiarity with candidate support technologies and AI-enabled recruiting automation
- Lean Six Sigma certification or equivalent operational training
