Job Description

Gusto is recruiting a Retirement Implementation Specialist for its Conversion Onboarding team. The role manages the move of an existing 401(k) plan onto the Gusto 401(k) platform. It covers the full conversion lifecycle, from the first handover through moving assets, reconciling data and the first contribution. The position is hybrid.

The specialist works only with plan sponsors and administrators. The role gathers the paperwork and data needed so assets move cleanly and records change hands on time. The specialist is the main point of contact by email, phone and video, including scheduling through Calendly, and uses pre-ready task dashboards to keep plans on course for their start date.

Performance is tracked against benchmarks such as activation speed, readiness speed, customer satisfaction and average response time. The role works with operations, sales and legal colleagues on asset transfers and complex plan changes, and uses AI tools to streamline workflows and improve client communication.

The posting suits someone with retirement plan knowledge, a careful approach to data accuracy and reconciliation, and the self-assurance to lead employers step by step through a multi-stage process.

Responsibilities

  • Own a caseload of plan conversions, from signature through to the first contribution.
  • Gather documentation and submit accurate data to support asset transfers.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for plan sponsors and administrators by email, phone and video.
  • Guide employers with pre-ready task dashboards to prevent delays.
  • Track benchmarks such as activation speed, readiness speed, CSAT and response time.
  • Work with operations, sales and legal teams on transfers and complex plan changes.
  • Apply AI tools to smooth out workflows and client communication.

Requirements

  • At least two years of work experience overall, with a year or more spent in client-facing implementation, account management for technical products, or retirement plan administration.
  • Experience handling many concurrent accounts with complex, multi-step processes.
  • Knowledge of SaaS, operations or finance, with retirement plan experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills and close attention to data accuracy and reconciliation.
  • Proficiency with Salesforce and comfort using case-management and teamwork software.
  • Clear communication across email, phone and video, always putting the client first.

Qualifications

  • An RPS or CRPS designation, or active pursuit of one.
  • Familiarity with ERISA rules, payroll systems, unbundled providers and Safe Harbor rules.
  • Startup or financial services experience.

Core Skills

Benefits

  • Base pay, benefits and RSU equity for full-time staff, per Gusto's standard terms.
