Job Description
GitLab is seeking a Senior AI Engineer to join its Enterprise Technology & AI department and help shape the organization's transition into an AI-driven enterprise. This full-time position operates within a remote, asynchronous work setting and reports directly to the Director of Enterprise AI. The person in this role will function as a hands-on technical leader, focusing initially on Sales, Marketing, and Customer Support by embedding artificial intelligence into core operational workflows and business systems.
Ideal candidates possess strong coding capabilities paired with a systems-thinking mindset, demonstrating an ability to analyze workflows, locate operational constraints, and determine when artificial intelligence is the appropriate solution versus when simpler interventions are more effective. Responsibilities span the complete project lifecycle, from initial stakeholder discovery and technical design through implementation, deployment, and performance measurement. The work requires practical fluency across modern large language models, agentic architecture patterns, safety protocols, and integration tooling such as the GitLab Duo Agent Platform, APIs, and enterprise software systems like Salesforce, Zendesk, and Glean.
Responsibilities
- Analyze complex business processes to map workflow movements, identify constraints, and determine appropriate interventions before development begins.
- Manage AI initiatives from discovery and technical design through implementation, deployment, and iteration.
- Build working prototypes and functional solutions rapidly while prioritizing measurable business outcomes and operational flow metrics.
- Integrate capabilities into existing systems via APIs, orchestration tools, and modern AI platforms including the GitLab Duo Agent Platform.
- Act as Customer Zero by leveraging GitLab offerings internally and feeding real-world usability insights back to research and development teams.
- Collaborate across departments to align on project outcomes, bridge technical gaps, and establish feedback loops for performance tracking.
Requirements
- Proficiency in at least one modern scripting language such as Python or JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Familiarity with REST APIs, GraphQL, and integration design patterns.
- Practical experience with prompt engineering, model selection, cost-performance trade-offs, and agentic architecture patterns.
- Knowledge of AI safety measures including input validation, output filtering, and prompt injection defenses.
- Demonstrated ability to own complex initiatives independently from discovery through delivery in ambiguous environments.
Qualifications
- Experience working with the GitLab platform and CI/CD pipelines.
- Professional background in consulting, solutions engineering, or customer-facing technical roles.
- Familiarity with value stream mapping, flow metrics, or Theory of Constraints methodologies.
- Experience utilizing low-code or no-code orchestration platforms like n8n, Make, or Workato alongside custom development.
- Previous tenure at a startup or high-growth company.
Core Skills
Benefits
- Flexible Paid Time Off
- Access to Team Member Resource Groups
- Equity Compensation and Employee Stock Purchase Plan
- Growth and Development Fund
- Parental Leave
