The role suits an experienced engineer capable of diagnosing intricate system behaviors across application code, infrastructure, networks, and APIs. Professionals in this position will work closely with strategic accounts to resolve adoption hurdles, remove scale bottlenecks, and address AI governance issues. Responsibilities
- Contribute production-ready code, bug fixes, features, integrations, and performance enhancements to the platform and adjacent systems
- Engage with strategic accounts during critical adoption, retention, or trust challenges
- Diagnose complicated system behaviors across application code, databases, infrastructure, observability platforms, networking, and APIs
- Coordinate cross-functional resolution efforts alongside Product, Engineering, Support, Site Reliability Engineering, Solutions Architecture, and Customer Success teams
- Drive governed and measurable adoption of the GitLab Duo Agent Platform with strategic accounts
- Develop customer-safe adoption patterns for agentic software development lifecycles, AI-assisted development, and AI governance
- Create technical narratives, whitepapers, reference architectures, and adoption frameworks
Requirements
- Staff-level background in building, operating, or scaling complex production software systems
- Experience contributing to large and mature product codebases with high performance, testing, and security standards
- Proficiency in Ruby on Rails or Go to build directly within the product codebases
- Experience with AI-assisted software development, agentic workflows, model evaluation, or enterprise AI adoption
- Background in diagnosing complex system behaviors across codebases, data stores, infrastructure, and APIs
- Familiarity with modern DevSecOps workflows including Git, merge requests, CI/CD pipelines, and security controls
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate across product, engineering, and field teams without formal authority
- Strong written communication skills and the ability to formulate technical narratives
Qualifications
- Direct experience utilizing the platform including GitLab.com, GitLab Dedicated, or GitLab Self-Managed
- Production background involving Ruby on Rails, Go, PostgreSQL, Redis, Sidekiq, Vue, TypeScript, Kubernetes, Docker, Linux, or observability tools
- Familiarity with Git internals, repository performance, large-scale usage patterns, or GitLab Runner behavior
- History of producing technical thought-leadership content such as whitepapers, technical talks, architecture frameworks, or requests for comments
- Professional background in performance engineering, site reliability engineering, platform engineering, infrastructure engineering, or distributed systems
- Experience operating within open source or highly asynchronous engineering environments
