Job Description
GitLab is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for its Platform Enablement organization to focus on deployment environments. GitLab operates an intelligent orchestration platform for DevSecOps that aids organizations in improving operational efficiency, accelerating digital transformation, and boosting developer productivity.
In this position, you will help simplify how GitLab is deployed, operated, and validated across multiple environments. The role centers on cloud-native deployment guidance and ephemeral environments. You will assist in evolving self-managed deployment models beyond legacy reference architectures by defining deployment patterns, scaling principles, component requirements, and workload characterizations. Additionally, you will work on production-like ephemeral environments to help development teams test against realistic infrastructure conditions and minimize drift between CI, development, and production.
This role suits engineers with a background in distributed systems, backend development, and platform operations who enjoy working at the intersection of developer workflows and production infrastructure. GitLab operates globally as a remote-friendly organization, though country-specific hiring guidelines and location-based eligibility rules may apply.

- Strong background in backend engineering
- Experience with distributed applications, platform engineering, or Kubernetes-based systems
- Familiarity with cloud-native operations, environment management, or deployment architecture
