The company is currently seeking a remote Senior Backend Engineer (Go), Tenant Scale: Gitaly to join its distributed team on a full-time basis. In this position, the professional will focus on the Gitaly team to develop, maintain, and scale the Git data storage tier that supplies reliable and secure repository access for self-managed clients, GitLab Dedicated, and GitLab.com.
This role suits an experienced engineer who enjoys tackling distributed storage challenges, high availability, performance tuning, and source code management innovations. Responsibilities include leading technical initiatives from conception to rollout, participating in on-call rotations, writing technical designs, and collaborating across cross-functional groups. Responsibilities
- Manage medium-to-complex technical projects independently from problem definition through deployment and monitoring
- Lead technical design discussions addressing distributed storage, scalability, reliability, and Git repository management
- Partner with infrastructure, customer-facing, and site reliability teams to accomplish cross-functional goals
- Take operational charge of assigned systems by handling incident responses, performance evaluations, and customer escalations
- Participate in scheduled on-call shifts to address user emergencies and platform alerts
- Improve internal processes through mentorship, code reviews, documentation updates, and automation tools
Requirements
- Professional background in constructing, debugging, and optimizing distributed or highly available software applications in large-scale production settings
- Demonstrated experience driving complex projects through every phase including design, execution, rollout, and support
- Robust systems design capabilities regarding performance, concurrency, capacity, consistency, and observability
- Background in influencing technical decisions and collaborating with multidisciplinary stakeholders
- Practical expertise working with Go or an alternative backend or systems programming language
- Familiarity operating production environments, participating in incident response workflows, and translating operational findings into permanent fixes
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities for explaining complex technical topics
Qualifications
- Practical experience using Ruby
- Familiarity with Git internals
- Working knowledge of gRPC
