Wise is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Personal and Business Pricing Team in London. This on-site position plays a central role in building infrastructure and tooling that directly affects product launches, promotions, and company growth. The role involves working in a collaborative environment with global and regional product teams to deliver new features while keeping pricing architecture scalable and reliable. The ideal candidate will take ownership of technical roadmaps, mentor peers, and balance speed against risk for regular delivery schedules.
Responsibilities
- Design and build end-to-end features across pricing services
- Participate in architectural discussions and code reviews to enhance system quality, reliability, and observability
- Drive initiatives aimed at scaling pricing services and improving product flexibility
- Lead incident resolution and post-incident reviews for minor and major events
- Engage with product, compliance, and stakeholder teams to define requirements and priorities
- Mentor other engineers and manage the onboarding process for new team members
Requirements
- Extensive background in software engineering with significant contributions to large production domain projects
- Proficiency with Java or another object-oriented programming language
- Ability to design systems for long-term iteration and scale while ensuring availability, reliability, and security
- Capacity to manage projects end-to-end and explain the customer problems being solved
- Skill in communicating effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences
Qualifications
- Experience in fintech, payments, or related domains
- Prior background working within a global and distributed team setup
