Job Description

GitLab operates an intelligent orchestration platform for DevSecOps, helping organizations boost developer efficiency, streamline operations, and minimize security and compliance risks. The company is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join its newly formed Platform Readiness team. In this remote position, you will build internal developer tools that integrate platform readiness intelligence directly into the software development lifecycle, moving assessments from manual reviews to intelligent, agentic automation.

This role is ideal for an experienced backend or platform engineer who wants to shape architectural direction, mentor teammates, and work with modern developer workflows. You will design core agentic workflows on the Duo Agent Platform, evolve requirements knowledge bases, and create integration surfaces within issues, merge requests, and CI/CD pipelines. As a senior technical anchor, you will receive onboarding and guidance from leadership while establishing the team's technical strategy. The position supports a flexible work environment with comprehensive benefits including equity compensation, paid time off, and parental leave.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and evolve core agentic workflows on the Duo Agent Platform and Requirements Agent
  • Contribute to schema design, validation tooling, and CI systems powering the platform requirements knowledge base
  • Build integration surfaces that connect with issues, merge requests, design documents, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Partner with infrastructure, security, and data teams to translate domain expertise into structured requirements and validation logic
  • Design quality control feedback loops to measure assessment accuracy and surface errors back to governance
  • Mentor other engineers on agentic-workflow standards, prompt discipline, and human-AI collaboration
  • Author technical documentation and architectural decision records detailing key design choices

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience
  • 2+ years of experience in backend, platform, or developer-facing tooling
  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript/Node, Python, or Golang
  • Experience shipping developer-facing tooling for engineering users
  • Understanding of GitLab-style development workflows including issues, merge requests, and CI/CD
  • Ability to work cross-functionally across multiple platform teams
  • Experience with structured content systems, schemas, or validation tooling

Qualifications

  • Experience with Ruby
  • Experience with AI and agentic systems such as DAP, ADK, or LangGraph
  • Experience integrating with LLM APIs and reasoning about cost, latency, and evaluation
  • Background in developer experience or platform engineering
  • Familiarity with governance patterns for shared standards and cross-org decision-making
  • Open source contribution history in platform, developer experience, or AI infrastructure
  • Relational database experience with PostgreSQL at scale
  • Production experience shipping agentic workflows and handling AI operational complexities
  • Observability and monitoring experience for AI systems
