Job Description
This senior customer-facing technical sales job at Cloudflare targets the digital native segment, meaning startups and fast-growing cloud-native companies that build new internet products. The posting names San Francisco as the location and asks for candidates who are either local or prepared to relocate to the Bay Area.
The core of the work is technical discovery. The person spends time with founding engineers, lead developers and CTOs, working out what each team is trying to ship and where Cloudflare's platform fits, AI projects included. The role involves both opening new accounts and expanding existing ones.
This is explicitly not a day-to-day coding position. It suits a technologist who can discuss architecture, APIs and platform design convincingly, likes working directly with builders, and is at ease in fast-moving pre-sales work. Having built or contributed to web applications is seen as an asset.
Cloudflare operates one of the biggest networks on the internet and provides protection and acceleration for web applications. The job centres on its developer toolkit, which spans serverless compute, storage, databases, AI and messaging, and on encouraging teams to build on the platform rather than consume one isolated product.
Responsibilities
- Run technical discovery with cloud-developer and startup customers, asking questions that reveal how they build and what they plan to launch.
- Join sales-led discovery calls early and help qualify deals from the outset.
- Connect a customer's product and AI goals with the right parts of the Developer Platform.
- Cultivate technical champions in accounts, from developers through to CTOs.
- Build and deliver demos and technical material for hands-on engineers and senior executives.
- Lead demos, proof-of-concept builds and prototypes for prospects and customers.
- Contribute to external credibility through reference architectures, blog posts and conference or community appearances.
Requirements
- Prior work as a solutions engineer or in a similar customer-facing technical role, ideally with developer-led or startup businesses.
- Able to discuss APIs, architecture and platform design credibly without coding every day.
- Strong technical discovery instincts and a builder mindset.
- Pre-sales or technical sales background and comfort working quickly in a dynamic setting.
- Able to adjust communication for a hands-on engineer or for a CTO or CISO.
- Capable of juggling several projects at once.
- Travel of up to 50 percent of working time.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
Qualifications
- Hands-on background building or contributing to web applications.
- Proven ability to earn trust with developers and technical founders over time.
- Experience developing internal champions and driving technical validation in accounts.
- Experience getting stakeholders to agree on a technical direction.
- Working knowledge of the Developer Platform, or eagerness to learn it deeply.
