Job Description
This is a full-time, on-site individual contributor position that makes the design system tangible through prototypes, tooling and implementation patterns for the marketplace and apps. The technologist reports to the Design System Lead, leads ambitious design-technology projects, and upgrades components, patterns and tokens alongside designers and engineers. No people report directly, but mentoring is part of the role.
Typical work includes creating interactive, high-fidelity web and app prototypes built with live data, genuine interaction patterns and real system parts, so teams reach sound decisions earlier. The technologist also develops Figma plugins, scripts and automation that link design to code and cut repetitive effort, and tests AI-assisted methods for producing on-system interfaces safely. The role involves working with UX Research on discovery, aligning goals with product and engineering stakeholders, guiding designers and technologists, and documenting patterns and templates for others.
The ideal person has five or more years in design technology, UX or front-end engineering, with a history of guiding complicated cross-team efforts. Fluency with React, TypeScript, HTML and CSS, along with design tokens and component-based systems, is essential, as is a record of building prototypes and internal tools. Accessibility, inclusive design and performance awareness is expected, as is curiosity about AI and large language models applied with care in product design.
