Wise is seeking a Senior Engineering Lead for Group Finance Systems based in London. This on-site, full-time position sits within the Finance Tribe during a pivotal growth phase following the company's primary listing transition from the LSE to Nasdaq. The selected candidate will direct the engineering department overseeing the Finance Systems estate, acting as a crucial transformation role over the next two to three years. Responsibilities include modernizing enterprise resource planning and finance tooling, establishing engineering foundations for SOX compliance, and shaping AI-native finance operations in partnership with the Product and CFO organizations.
This role is well-suited for an experienced software engineering leader with a background in regulated or audited environments. The position requires deep expertise in major enterprise resource planning platforms, robust stakeholder management capabilities at the CFO level, and a practical approach to multi-year technical transformations. Wise operates as an international organization focused on building borderless financial solutions while fostering an inclusive, diverse, and equitable workplace culture.
Responsibilities
- Define the multi-year architecture and technical roadmap for enterprise resource planning and surrounding finance platforms
- Lead, hire, and cultivate a senior engineering team emphasizing correctness, auditability, and resilience
- Construct tooling, controls, and change-management practices to embed SOX compliance into engineering workflows
- Elevate operational maturity by improving deployment frequency, observability, incident response, and change control
- Partner with Group Finance and Product teams to translate priorities into actionable engineering plans
- Drive operational efficiencies through AI-assisted finance tooling, strategic automation decisions, and integrations
Requirements
- 12 or more years of experience in software engineering
- At least 5 years of experience leading engineering teams within finance, fintech, or other regulated and audited domains
- Extensive experience with Tier 1 enterprise resource planning systems at enterprise scale
- Direct leadership experience on the engineering side of at least one migration, consolidation, or major modernization program
- Demonstrated experience building engineering practices that withstand external SOX audits
- Familiarity across vendor configuration, custom extensions, integration middleware, and event-driven patterns
Qualifications
- First-hand experience guiding a company through post-listing SOX readiness
- Professional background in fintech, payments, or banking
- Public perspective regarding the practical applications versus hype of artificial intelligence in the finance back-office
