Responsibilities
- Manage roadmap delivery by establishing milestones, mitigating risks, and ensuring predictable shipping schedules
- Oversee the complete hiring lifecycle including job descriptions, interview processes, recruiter collaboration, and onboarding
- Provide coaching, career development, and regular one-on-one sessions for engineers at all levels
- Handle consistent performance management covering promotions, development plans, and underperformance resolution
- Collaborate with the Technical Lead and Product Manager to shape strategic priorities
- Partner with data science, user experience, and other peer groups on shared primitives and quality signals
- Develop and refine team processes regarding planning, asynchronous communication, releases, and on-call practices through written consensus
- Act as the representative for the engineering group to company leadership and stakeholders
Requirements
- Proven background as an engineering manager overseeing software teams, including hiring, coaching, and performance management
- History of delivering multi-team software projects within a distributed, asynchronous environment
- Previous practical software engineering background as a senior contributor with technical depth in TypeScript, Node, React, and Elasticsearch-backed systems
- Familiarity with large language model applications including retrieval-augmented generation, agents, tool use, evaluation, and prompt engineering
- Product acumen enabling the setting and communication of priorities amidst ambiguity
- Strong written and verbal communication skills emphasizing clear long-form writing
- Calm, direct, empathetic, and kind leadership approach focused on accountability without drama
