The organization is hiring a Senior Engineering Manager for the Chat team within the Agents and Context group located in the United Kingdom.
In this capacity, you will lead an internationally distributed engineering team of approximately twelve professionals. You will operate alongside a Product Manager and Technical Lead as part of a triad to formulate strategies, manage projects, and oversee software delivery. The group builds conversational and agentic platforms that empower users to interact with data stored in Elasticsearch, covering agent harnesses, retrieval, streaming, memory, and evaluation layers.

Responsibilities
- Manage the execution of the Chat roadmap by establishing milestones, mitigating risks, and securing predictable deliveries
- Oversee the complete hiring lifecycle including job creation, candidate sourcing, interview coordination, and onboarding
- Mentor and guide engineers at all experience levels through regular one-on-one sessions, setting expectations, and giving feedback
- Handle performance management processes such as promotions, career development plans, and addressing underperformance
- Collaborate with product and technical leads, data science, and UX teams to align on priorities and quality measures
- Establish and refine internal team processes for planning, asynchronous communication, releases, and on-call rotations
- Act as the primary representative for the team when communicating with organizational leadership and stakeholders
Requirements
- Demonstrated background in engineering management covering hiring, coaching, promotions, and performance oversight
- Experience delivering large-scale software projects across multiple teams in distributed asynchronous settings
- Prior hands-on software contributions as a senior engineer with technical knowledge of TypeScript, Node, React, and Elasticsearch-backed systems
- Familiarity with large language model applications including retrieval-augmented generation, agents, tool use, and evaluation
- Strong product intuition with comfort handling ambiguous situations and setting clear priorities
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities utilizing clear long-form documentation
